Noun Gender - Russian
Russian names are divided into three genres: masculine, feminine and neutral. In most cases, the ending of a name allows you to guess what is its gender.
Male words end with a consonant or a Й. The feminine words end with A or Я. Neutral words end in O or E
The names that end with the soft sign -ь can be either male or female: день (day - male), портфель (male- wallet), тетрадь (female- notebook), дверь (female- door), ночь (night - female).

Exceptions (исключения)
Some male names designating people end in -a, - я like папа (dad), дедушка (grandfather) .The word кофе (coffee) is masculine.
